......people live in places like Leilani Estates because that’s where they can afford real estate in Hawaii. But it’s not that they have no choice, but because they make the choice, and they chose to live in a place that is quiet but never silent because of the pulse of the land; a place where the “living earth” is not just a concept, but a constant presence; where they can have a yard and chickens and rain-watered orchids and cats sleeping on the porch; where they can park a truck on the grass and hang clothes on the line; where nobody bothers them and they can see all the stars at night. Everywhere there are risks. This is a place of immense richness.

SIGNUP HERE Come and help our local chefs prepare meals for our emergency first responders, firefighters and community residents affected by the disaster.  We will be prepping and delivering 500+ meals twice a day (lunch and dinner).  We can use help in the kitchen (professional kitchen experience preferred/must be comfortable with knives), and assembly line (anyone). Location: 15 1450 KahaKai Blvd, Pahoa, HI 96778-6606 (The old KFC location)  SIGNUP HERE

 

PU'UHONUA O PUNA

Facebook group for 100% community driven grass roots assistance center across from Pahoa High School. Pahoa Kalapana Road, Pahoa. 8AM to 8PM. Serves hot meals.  From the Facebook Page:  "Pu‘uhonua o Puna Info & Supply Hub was set up to help individuals displaced by the May 2018 lava activities. We are 100% community driven and funded. Salvation Army, East Hawaii

Visit the Salvation Army website and click on the “volunteer” option button on the main page.Salvation Army receives and distributes donated goods and operates hot food stations in time of disaster. Salvation Army has been at the forefront of disaster response for Hurricane Iselle and the 2014 Lava Crisis, and is already active in Lower Puna now.
